Rescue The Revolution

I can't post without including something British can I? Nemo are an electro-punk band, unfortunately compared to The Faint and The Killers. Yes, they look the part, complete with gaunt, seemingly never-seen-the-sun complexions. There is something infectious about these songs. I'm waiting for a CD to land in my mailbox as I've begged the band to send me their last recording. (Do I appear to be an email mooch or what?) I'm not sure how long this dance rock genre will last this time around, but I hope Nemo puts out a lot more material before the 80s vibe is no longer "cool." (Check out "Living Room" and begin to count the influences.)

Shake Your Fist

Piccadilly In Sepia

A rush of synth sweetness for a guitar-tooth... Nemo manage to hybridise (is that a word?) the very best of guitar pop with the squelchy and arcane worlds of electro. Not in a Ladytron standoffish way, and not in a Fischer Spooner studied art school pose but in a real, passionate and most of all engaging way.

Vocals come on like Scott Walker being slapped by Warhol, engaging and almost comic in their delivery.... "Picadilly in sepia, we are naked on the underground.....There are trillions" Whatever that means.

This is the sound of the resurrection of the truly ambitious pop bands of the late 80s. Duran Duran, Human League and even Dead or Alive, before thought to be long time dead face a revival thanks to these immaculately coiffed iconic pop boys.

Eins-Zwei-Drei-Vier this is almost the kick-off into this release by Nemo (if anyone wondered - no connected to Little Nemo). And voilą we are in the 'Living room', a very thythmic based room, with pumping analogue bassline and well worked out vocal lines, touched by a few guitars, it is kind of new romantic/new wave-style but not dated much more up-to-date, as although many old sounds are used + the structures are also quite minimal here, you never think of a vintage release. What is fabulous, Nemo use a nice selection of synthsounds and also the grooves immediately give you a kick. With 'Bees in November' (come on, with such a title a song can never be crap, not?) they pull out some more guitars and create another one of those lovely pop anthems. Rounding off this 5-track EP is a remix of 'Memory box' courtesy of Sneaker Pimps, also done very well, and you don't even hear it could be by Sneaker Pimps, as you will move to the dancefloor for this one anyway without even thinking...
